SAFE SPACE
Since December 2022, from the Xanela Creando Comunidade Association we have carried out the project called “A look at functional diversity: Safe Space” in the Councils of Negreira and Val do Dubra.
The development of this project does not arise by chance, but from the union of two successful initiatives. On the one hand, the inspiration comes from the movement generated by UNICEF: “Child Friendly Cities”, referring to any city, town, community or local government system that is committed to promoting the rights of girls, boys and adolescents. , in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). And, on the other hand, the project developed in Madrid, where different spaces such as shops, cultural centers, nightclubs and bars have been declared “LGTBI Safe Zone”.
In this way, “Espazo Seguro” arises to respond to the needs of people with functional diversity, promoting spaces adapted to them. For this, a meeting point is established, which corresponds to the Negreira town hall building as well as that of Val do Dubra, where the management of the municipality takes place. These have a therapeutic use, that is, in the event that during a direct intervention the person is lost or disoriented, they can go to the Council with the assurance that they will be reunited with those responsible for their session. There are also help points, which are established in different localities and establishments in the area, which receive micro-training made up of six recommendations that will serve as support to be able to provide care adapted to the needs of people with functional diversity. . Therefore, to give visibility to this project, the participating establishments placed a sticker in their windows, on which the identification “Espazo Seguro” is reflected.
