BELIEVING IN HIS SOUND
Many things we take for granted were not really welcomed with open arms when they were suggested. Many scientists, inventors, thinkers, etc. that we now venerate as visionaries were actually mocked, discredited and even punished just for their ideas.
Both Nicolaus Copernicus and Galileo Galilei were threatened by the Catholic Church for daring to suggest that, in fact, the Earth was not the center of the universe. Just as these scientists, astronomers, and historical figures suffered this type of harassment where their ideas and contributions were belittled and reprisals were collected against them; it was worse when you were a woman.
Women were belittled for the simple fact of being women, but if you add to that the credibility of their words it was even worse. Women’s opinions were not taken into account at all, even if these were based on scientific studies, facts with evidence, etc. Many women were imprisoned, belittled, ridiculed without believing their words.
For this reason, from the Xanela Association we present this project called “Believing in their voice”, which involves the creation of posters with images of women who have been belittled and forgotten, telling their story and seeking to encourage and empower all women to raise their voices and be heard.
